RaceComp Tarmac 2 Coilovers

RaceComp Tarmac 2 Coilovers

The GTWORK/Bilstein Trophy Cups were the perfect starting point. They taught me how much consistency matters. But with more power, wider tires, and a car that keeps getting faster, I'd outgrown a damper I couldn't adjust. The Tarmac 2s are a two-way adjustable, remote-reservoir coilover made by KW for RaceComp Engineering. Separate bump and rebound means I can finally tune the car instead of just living with it.

Side by side, the old struts showed their miles. The new units are a different class of hardware entirely.

At the top, the old Whiteline top hats came out and Vorshlag camber plates went in. That gives me real camber adjustment without depending on ride height to get there.

Springs were the standard RaceComp rates for the GR, 9k front and 10k rear. For a starting point on the dampers, I borrowed the settings RCE ran on their Project Texas build.

Last step, back on the scales. With me in the car, it came out to 1,504.5 kg (about 3,317 lb), with 60.1% on the front axle and a dead-on 50.0% cross weight.

On track and at autocross, the T2s flattened the car out and kept it even more composed. The real win is the adjustability. Our local autocross lot is rough and wants a little softer damping for grip, while a smooth, well-prepped surface like Eagles Canyon can take more. Now I can dial the car in for each venue instead of picking one compromise for both.
